INFORMATION FOR NORTHERN CALIFORNIA CHAPTER MEMBERS

The Monthly Meetings

The monthly meetings are the central activity of the Chapter. They provide the opportunity to meet with fellow explorers, introduce your guests to the Club, and hear a fascinating story by a prominent explorer. Traditionally we do no business-we just share the common bond of the spirit of exploration. Guests are especially welcome.

This will produce for you the Home Page of the Northern California Chapter. There you will find the announcement for the monthly meeting, news of members, and much information about The Explorers Club and our Chapter in general. If you are unfamiliar with this service but would like to try it, call the Webmaster.

Do You Have A Candidate For Membership?

Please copy the form included herein, or request an original form from any Chapter officer.

Do You Know A Young Explorer?

Bring young explorers as guests. The Chapter encourages Members to invite young explorers to the monthly meetings. The Chapter will provide dinner to these guests at no charge, and we will introduce them give them a chance to speak about their interests. These guests should be outside the Member's immediate family.

The Dan Reid Memorial Exploration Grant.

This grant was created in honor of Dan and Barbara Reid who were swept to their deaths by a rockslide while climbing in bad weather at about the 15,000-foot level on Mt. Kenya on September 10, 1991. The Chapter authorized the award of a grant to a young explorer who shows evidence of serious interest in activities related to exploration, and who proposes a worthy project for which he or she needs financial assistance. The grant is limited to $1000, and is limited to no more than one grant per year. Direct your inquiries to the Chairman.

Resigning, Reinstatement, and Paying Dues

To be a member of the Northern California Chapter, you must be a member of The Explorers Club. In case you forget to pay your dues, the home office in New York gives you quite a grace period. Eventually, they drop you from the rolls. If you then want to be re-instated, you must pay back dues. Alternatively, if you voluntarily resign from the Club, when you re-instate you are not liable for the back dues.

Use of the Membership Directory

The Chapter membership directory is for the use of members of The Explorers Club. It is not to be distributed and may not be used for any commercial purpose. It may be reproduced only for personal copies.
